Has {Insert Name} sold out to Microsoft?

Interesting news in the last few weeks.

We see that OSDL is confirming rumours about working closer with Microsoft. Does this mean they’ve sold out to Microsoft and are now their puppets? Of course not.

We also see that IBM has settled with Microsoft for about US$775 million. Does this mean that they’ve sold out to Microsoft and are now their puppets? Of Course not.

So why is it that when Sun Settled with Microsoft for around US$2 billion (and some other agreements), that all the talk is about how Microsoft controls everything we do and we have sold out?

How is this different? I’ve seen nothing about either of the first two selling out and being controlled. What makes them different?

  1. Gee, I wonder, could it be, no not that, maybe you should look in the mirror. hmmm … I think it’s your CEO that runs around making disparaging stupid remarks about every other company in the business.
All those personal attacks come home, and you wonder why. Imagine that.
Sun needs a new CEO, everyone but Sun knows that.

  2. Sun is on the rebound and a renewed threat to the Microsoft-IBM-Linux status quo. Of course people will trash talk Sun; it’s a sign you guys are doing something right.
